These include drought-tolerant species, heat-resistant trees and compact varieties for narrow streets. Our TreeEbb tree search tool helps you identify the most suitable species.

Which tree species are suitable for climate-adaptive planting?

For climate-adaptive planting, it is best to choose species that tolerate drought, heat, low temperatures, high wind speeds or wet soils. Ebben Nurseries offers extensive selection options based on site characteristics and climatic parameters within TreeEbb.

Can Ebben Nurseries help select the best tree species for a project?

Yes. Ebben Nurseries works closely with designers, municipalities and developers to select trees that suit soil type, wind exposure, available space, management objectives, aesthetics and ecology.

Delivery and logistics

What is the delivery time for trees from Ebben Nurseries?

Delivery times depend on:

  • Season (planting season normally October to April)
  • Stock availability and tree size
  • Project planning
  • International transport schedules

With early reservation, trees can be allocated at any project stage. Within the Netherlands, delivery is possible within 10 working days after call-off. Outside the Netherlands, delivery is generally within 14 days.

How are trees transported and delivered on site?

Trees are delivered using specially equipped lorries and trailers and, if agreed in advance, with a vehicle-mounted crane. Standard deliveries are made using a lorry and trailer of approximately 18 metres in length. If a smaller vehicle is required, this must be indicated in good time so that options can be explored. The type of transport depends on tree size, season and site accessibility. Trees are supplied as wire-balled, container-grown or bare-root stock. Crane delivery is an additional service and is always agreed in advance in the quotation or order. For deliveries with a crane, at least two representatives of the client must be present to assist and ensure safety. For deliveries without a crane, at least one contact person is required for unloading, checking the delivery and signing transport documents. Our drivers are experienced in transporting and handling trees but do not provide advice on tree selection. Additional services, such as placing trees into planting pits or assistance with planting, are available at extra cost.

Can trees be shipped internationally?

Yes, trees can be shipped internationally via Ebben Nurseries. Ebben handles export documentation, phytosanitary certificates and plant passports and works with transport partners experienced in international green logistics.

Planting and maintenance

How should trees from Ebben Nurseries be planted correctly?

Correct planting includes:

  • A properly sized planting pit (minimum 1.5 times the root ball diameter)
  • Soil improvement depending on site conditions
  • Correct tree supports
  • Positioning the root ball a few centimetres above ground level and working soil up to it
  • A watering regime during the first growing season
  • Optional aeration and drainage

Detailed planting instructions can be found in our knowledge base.

Which soil conditions are ideal for the trees supplied by Ebben Nurseries?

Soil should be well aerated, free-draining and sufficiently fertile. Ebben Nurseries advises on soil improvement, site preparation and the selection of appropriate substrates. Waterlogged or deeply frozen soils are not suitable for planting.

Does Ebben Nurseries offer planting and or maintenance advice?

Yes. The team at Ebben Nurseries is happy to advise on planting and maintenance. Together with municipalities, contractors or landscapers, Ebben Nurseries can develop a planting and aftercare plan for the first three to five years, including pruning, watering and health monitoring.

When is the best planting season for trees?

The planting season for root-balled trees runs from October to April, provided there is no frost. Container-grown trees can be planted year-round. Planting during periods of high temperatures or severe frost is not recommended.

Sustainability and biodiversity

How does Ebben Nurseries contribute to biodiversity?

Planting trees in itself contributes to biodiversity. At Ebben Nurseries, we grow a very wide assortment with great diversity in form, providing nesting opportunities and food in the form of fruit, nectar, pollen and leaves. In addition to producing sustainable trees, Ebben Nurseries promotes biodiversity through nature-inclusive cultivation using flower mixtures, nesting boxes and ecological soil management. We reuse almost all residual streams and use bio-based, biodegradable materials. Our nursery is designed as a varied habitat with wadis, shrubs and flower-rich zones for insects, birds and amphibians. In this way, we deliver resilient trees and create valuable ecosystems both within and beyond the nursery.

What are climate trees?

Climate trees are tree species that are better adapted to future climate conditions such as heat, drought and low temperatures.

How does Ebben Nurseries cultivate trees sustainably?

Trees are inherently a sustainable product. At Ebben Nurseries, we grow the foundation for trees that will green European cities and landscapes for decades to come. We cultivate organically according to SKAL principles on designated plots that undergo a transition phase in which the soil is prepared and enhanced, without the use of synthetic pesticides or artificial fertilisers. We use organic fertilisers such as leaf compost and organic crop protection. In addition, we establish flower-rich grass strips and wild margins to encourage natural predators of pests and pollinators. Both announced and unannounced inspections take place on SKAL plots, and organic trees are stored and labelled separately to ensure traceability throughout the supply chain. We currently have 10 hectares of SKAL-certified organic cultivation, with this area expanding rapidly to deliver healthy, resilient trees with a lower environmental impact.

What does Ebben Nurseries do with residual streams and organic material?

Residual streams are reused as much as possible, for example chipped pruning waste for soil improvement, water recycling and circular cultivation methods.

Does Ebben Nurseries offer support for landscape projects?

Can Ebben Nurseries create a planting plan?
