Projects in streets and avenues

Streets and avenues

Trees on streets and avenues make a major contribution to the character of a shopping street, thoroughfare or roads in our living environment. Large trees with leafy crowns lend boulevards their stately character. Decorative blossom trees along streets in residential areas create a pleasant atmosphere. As well as providing a green experience, trees on streets and avenues also create structure and help road users to orientate themselves.

Natural experience on streets

Natural experience on streets

Trees on streets and along avenues create a natural experience, bring human scale and give identity to the city. Many cities have traditionally been known for 'their' tree species. The Hague is known for its chestnuts, Paris is known for its plane trees, Amsterdam for its elms and Berlin for its limes. Over time, there has been a shift though, and we increasingly see the same trees recurring throughout the streetscape. Cities are losing their 'tree identity' and therefore their unique atmosphere and experience. By re-evaluating the tree stock and history during the design of streets and avenues, the desired atmosphere and experience can be expressed perfectly through specific tree species, textures and structures.

Disease resistance and biodiversity

Disease resistance and biodiversity

By cultivating genetic variation within specific tree species, Ebben Nurseries is able to limit susceptibility to diseases. An avenue planting consisting of various variations is uniform in terms of size and maintenance, but differs in autumn colours or blossom tints, for example. Imagine an avenue planted with different varieties of Norway Maple. Surprising in the spring and autumn. Genetic species variations reinforce the green experience whilst making a significant ecological contribution for bees and biodiversity.
