Multi-stem trees create a natural effect, and through their shape they bring atmosphere to the park, garden, square or street. They are primarily used for their unique character. With their quirky and natural shape they offer a stunning contrast in the built environment. They provide a unique atmosphere and natural experience through their distinctive appearance and their many diverse shapes. The multi-stem tree also fits perfectly into natural gardens.

Multi-stem trees and underplanting

Multi-stem trees and underplanting

The attractive bark of a multi-stem tree is often combined with perennials such as loose grasses or richly flowering prairie planting with brightly coloured flower bulbs. Not only does this combination have a natural effect, there is more room for biodiversity because of the variation in the type of planting. A multi-stem tree takes away little light, but nevertheless creates shade and in this way adds value to the plants used and the design.

The depth created and the open structure of the multiple stems, often three to five, give your project a playful character. An uneven number of stems is often the best. The impact of a multi-stem tree is greatest at eye level. Not only the bark but also the branches and foliage make the greatest impression at this height. Singly or in a small group, multi-stem trees create a unique experience. Planting of large sizes gives a mature appearance immediately.

Properties and character

Properties and character

We select multi-stem trees at the nursery specifically for certain properties, including good autumn colour, striking spring flowering or tree bark. In addition, image-defining trees are included in the design. When buying, you must bear in mind that the trees are not identical in shape. They all have a unique appearance; no two are the same in growth habit. It is possible for garden professionals to come and select these trees themselves at our nursery. Our specialists are happy to make an appointment for this.

Favourites are Betula papyrifera (Paper birch), Acer griseum (Paperbark maple) and Parrotia persica ‘Bella’ (Persian ironwood). We often see evergreen multi-stem trees used as well. A few examples are Osmanthus burkwoodii (Burkwood osmanthus), Quercus ilex (Holm oak), Pinus mugo (Mountain pine).
