Kerkrade's town centre is undergoing a green boost. Placing multi-stemmed trees in large containers will make the stony centre look more friendly and accessible. This form of greening was chosen because it can be moved in case of events or emergencies. It is also a good solution to provide greening where underground space is limited for traditional planting.
Different types of robust bins have been placed each with its own size and finish. This enhances the playfulness in the design and gives recognition to the city centre user. The trees used are a well-considered choice in which tree nursery Ebben played an advisory role as supplier. They are all multi-stemmed trees to large shrubs, low-branched with an attractive bark. The selected species are very resistant to heat and drought, which contributes to their easy maintenance and quality appearance. The choice of underplanting is no accidental choice either. Strong groundcover species that flower long and richly provide weed suppression and a cheerful appearance. They also seal off the substrate nicely, giving the entire planting a rich green impression.
Reactions from shop owners and the public have been very positive. The planting is therefore expected to make a positive contribution to the atmosphere and experience in Kerkrade's town centre.
